Roma have confirmed the signing of Manchester City defender Maicon.

The 31-year-old arrived in Italy on Monday to finalise the move, having started just four games since arriving at the Etihad Stadium for £3 million from Inter last summer.

Roma have moved quickly to land the experienced full-back and reportedly agreed a fee with City late on Sunday, which is believed to be in the region of €5 million.

The Serie A side posted a picture of the defender training with the club on Twitter on Tuesday, alongside the message: “Welcome aboard, Maicon!”

Maicon made his debut for City in a 1-1 draw away to Stoke City, but struggled with injury problems throughout the season and only made 11 appearances in all competitions for the Citizens.

Roberto Mancini’s successor, Manuel Pellegrini, told the former Cruzeiro star that he had no future at the club and left him out of the squad for their pre-season tour of South Africa.

Sky Italia reported on Tuesday that Maicon didn’t cost Roma a penny as the Premier League club, in fact, paid in excess of €2 million for him to leave the club

Maicon becomes the Giallorossi’s eighth new signing and third defender this summer.
