AC Milan have announced via their official site that Robinho has extended his contract with the club until July 2016.

Robinho’s contract with Milan would expire in 2014, allowing him to leave the club for free next year.

He arrived at the club in 2010, after spells at Santos, Real Madrid and Manchester City, but he failed to impress in Spain and England.

Santos were interested in repatriating Robinho, but the negotiations between the clubs and the player did not advance due to a disagreement over his wages.

The Brazilian international transfer window closes on July 20, which made almost impossible for Robinho to return to his home country after the negotiations with Santos fell through.
