Vasco are close to signing Libertad’s Argentine midfielder Pablo Guiñazu, according to reports in Brazilian press.

Guiñazu left Internacional to join Libertad last year, as he alleged personal issues to return to Paraguay.

Internacional had included a clause forcing Brazilian clubs to pay them a fee if Guiñazu returned to Brazil within a two-year period, but they have accepted to waive that fee to allow the midfielder to join Vasco.

Guiñazu has already agreed to join Vasco but the club are racing against time to reach an agreement with Libertad so the deal can be finalized before the window closes on Saturday.

Vasco’s director of football Ricardo Gomes is optimistic they will be able to sign Guiñazu, he told Globo Esporte: “It’s possible, but he needs to be released by his club, but we are optimistic.”
