Coritiba have remained level on points with league leaders Botafogo after a 2-2 draw at Santos, but are second in the standings with a weaker goal difference.

Former Fenerbahce midfielder Alex deftly clipped the ball into the net to cancel out Neilton’s 20th minute opener at the Vila Belmiro, before Cicero restored Santos’ lead just after the hour-mark.

However, Coritiba captain Alex grabbed a second two minutes from full-time to secure a point for his side and keep the pressure on Botafogo, who beat Náutico 2-0 on Saturday.

Former Brazil defender Juan headed a stoppage-time goal to give fourth-placed Internacional a 1-0 win over Flamengo in the meeting of former national team coaches Dunga and Mano Menezes, with the former coming out on top.

Juninho Pernambucano led Vasco do Gama to a 3-1 win over Fluminense in the first domestic match at the Maracanã since it was rebuilt for next year’s World Cup.

The 38-year old scored Vasco’s first goal and set up another as he began a third stint at the club, while last season’s champions finished the encounter with nine men after Fred and Digao were red-carded.

Renan Oliveira’s brace helped Goiás to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory at home to Portuguesa, with the winners having Hugo sent off late on.

Bahia and Vitória drew 0-0 in the Salvador derby at the Fonte Nova, while former Milan striker Alexandre Pato’s goal gave Corinthians a 1-1 draw at Atlético Paranaense.

Atlético Mineiro‘s clash against Ponte Preta was postponed due to the Galo’s participation in the Copa Libertadores final on Wednesday.
