AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has claimed Robinho is like ‘a new signing’ after he extended his contract at the club last week.

The 29-year-old signed an extension that will see him stay in Milan until 2016 despite his proposed summer move to Santos, and Galliani revealed his delight at the Brazilian’s decision to stay with the Rossoneri and also take a pay cut.

Galliani told reporters at Pietrasanta: “He is a great champion, he has lowered his wages.

“He left Santos and has had a great career. He didn’t want to leave Milan, he only wanted to return to Santos. He said no to all the Brazilian clubs, he only wanted Santos and so that gave birth to a new three-year contract.”

For a while is seemed Robinho would have to be moved on for Milan to move to sign Keisuke Honda, however it now seems the Japan international will join the club in January with the Brazilian still at the club.
