Former Santos coach Muricy Ramalho believes that Neymar has a long way to go before he can be compared to Lionel Messi.

The Seleção striker signed for Barcelona from Santos this summer for €57 million, to much fanfare and media coverage.

But his former Santos coach has claimed that the 21-year-old is not comparable to the Argentine sensation just yet, despite his world class qualities.

The 57-year-old told Europa Press: “Messi is number one.

“Neymar will grow at Barca, but he has a long way to go to be like Messi.

“I’m sure Messi and Neymar will work, there won’t be any problems there.

“Neymar is a good kid, and he has a lot of respect for Messi.”

Neymar arrived for his first day at Barcelona on Monday as we wait for the season to start to see both the Brazilian and Messi line up together at the Camp Nou.
