Vanderlei Luxemburgo has been officially announced the new manager of Fluminense, replacing Abel Braga, who was sacked yesterday. Luxemburgo’s contract is only until December.
His first game as manager of Fluminense will be on Wednesday, when his new club face Cruzeiro for the Brazilian national league.
Assistant manager Júnior Lopes and fitness coach Antônio Mello have also joined the club along with Vanderlei Luxemburgo.
Luxemburgo’s salary will be paid by Fluminense and by the club’s sponsors Unimed, and it will be significantly lower than what he was paid at Grêmio, his last team.
He is the most successful manager in the Brazilian league, with five titles, but he has not won the competition since 2004. Luxemburgo has since then won only state league titles.
