Brasileirão: Rafael Marques fires Botafogo to top spot
Botafogo have returned to the top of the Brasileirão after an entertaining 3-2 victory at Vasco Da Gama on Sunday.
The visitors got off to the perfect start as Rafael Marques beat the offside trap and rolled the ball into the bottom corner in the 23rd minute.
Dutch veteran Clarence Seedorf doubled their lead 15 minutes before half time, when he picked up Vitinho’s through ball and dinked the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper.
However, Vasco hit back immediately after the break as André netted two goals in as many minutes.
Juninho Pernambucano turned brilliantly between the two Vasco centre-backs and set up the striker to tap into an empty net, before he reacted quickest to fire home a rebounded effort off the post.
But Botafogo were back in front just two minutes later as Marques scored his second goal of the game, which proved to be a worthy winner.
The striker cut back inside to avoid a sliding challenge in the box and curled the ball high into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Diogo Silva with no chance.
