Paulinho powerless to prevent Arsenal overcoming Tottenham
By Chris Donald
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Paulinho was powerless to stop Arsenal as his side went down 1-0 in the north London derby.
The Brazilian international played the full 90 minutes in a match that frustrated his Spurs team.
Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud was the difference between the two sides at the Emirates Stadium as he cleverly found Theo Walcott’s low cross to poke the ball past Hugo Lloris.
After impressing in his first few games for the Andre Villas Boas’ men, the 25-year-old struggled throughout in a game Spurs couldn’t quite find a way past an inspired Wojciech Szczesny in the Arsenal goal.
Paulinho’s compatriot Sandro also made a late appearance from the bench but was unable to force a way through a resilient Arsenal defence.
Despite spending over £100 million on transfers this summer, Spurs couldn’t find a way through and Giroud’s early strike was enough to earn Arsene Wenger’s side the derby day bragging rights.
