Hyuri impresses with two goals on Botafogo début
Botafogo forward Hyuri scored two goals on his début, as the Rio de Janeiro side defeated Coritiba by three goals to one in the Maracanã.
Rafael Marques put Botafogo ahead on the fourteenth minute, as he pounced on a defensive rebound which came to him just inside the area. Marques is Botafogo’s top scorer so far this season, notching up a total of eight goals so far.
But the night belonged to 21-year-old Hyuri, who played out a dream début in Brazil’s most iconic stadium, and the fans who were there will remember his second goal for a long time.
His first came following some great work from the aforementioned Rafael Marques, but the second goal was all his own work.
Hyuri burst into the area with the ball after beating a defender or two on his way, before flummoxing three more defenders in the penalty area and slotting past Vanderlei in the Coritiba goal.
It was a moment to savour for the player, who signed for Botafogo from Audax earlier in the year, and has found himself in the first team already thanks to international call-ups and the sale of Vitinho.
Both teams had a player sent off in the second half, as Botafogo keeper Renan was sent off for a foul in the area, from which Coritiba's Alex scored his side's only goal. Maicon was sent off for Curitiba for a second yellow card on 85 minutes.
The win took Botafogo to third in the table, leapfrogging Grêmio and going level on points with second place Atlético Paranaense, but still four points behind leaders Cruzeiro.
