Madrid fought hard for Neymar, says Barcelona president
Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has revealed that Real Madrid fought hard in an attempt to convince Neymar to join them over Barca this summer.
Rosell claims that their bitter rivals had attempted to steal the player from under the Catalans’ noses even as he signed a contract, reports Goal.com.
The Brazilian forward sealed a €57 million switch to Camp Nou after making it clear he favoured a move to the Liga champions, but that did not prevent Madrid from attempting to interupt negotiations according to Rosell.
He told TV3: "When we reached an initial agreement with Neymar's father, the player had already passed a medical with Madrid, so we joked we would not bother with our own check-up."
Rosell went on to reveal that Madrid were still attempting to steal Neymar away from Barca at the point of the 21-year-old putting pen to paper on his contract at the Camp Nou.
He added: "When we were signing the contract, Madrid were sending emails to Santos."
