Zenit back in for Damião
Russian champions Zenit Saint Petersburg are readying a second bid for Internacional forward Leandro Damião, according to Russian newspaper Izvestia.
Zenit, who currently sit top of the Russian Premier League, have previously approached Damião, only to be turned down by the 24 year-old.
The players agent, Vinicius Prates, however insists that Damião would be interested in a move to Zenit, but only if the terms are acceptable.
“Zenit were really interested in Leandro, but the proposal of the Russian club did not suit him,” Prates said, speaking of the Russian club’s last offer.
“Leandro was not against the move to Zenit, as this is a very serious club, which has set big goals and have great players in their ranks.”
Damião has long been keen on a switch to Europe, but seen various deals fall apart over the last 18 months.
In January, he was said to be close to a move to Tottenham Hotspur, while this summer Napoli made a serious bid.
With just three goals so far this season at Internacional, Damião has fallen behind Fred and Jô in the pecking order for the Brazilian national team. Playing in the Champions League with Zenit, alongside Hulk, could bring him back into contention for a starting berth.
