Júlio César reveals summer contact with Benfica
Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Júlio César has admitted that he was in contact with Portugese side Benfica over a possible transfer this summer.
The Seleção keeper was widely expected to leave Loftus Road this summer and he has now revealed that a move to Benfica was discussed between the parties and could have happened after he sought advice from former Benfica defender David Luiz, reports Lancenet.
However, the move did not materialize and the 34-year-old now stays at Harry Redknapp’s team, at least until the Janaury window opens.
He said: “There were contacts Benfica, but unfortunately the transfer did not materialize.
“I got to talk to David Luiz about life in Lisbon and the club.”
The keeper was also linked with a move to Schalke, however, negotiations with the German side also failed and the Brazilian had to stay at Queens Park Rangers following their relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season.
