Fluminense youngster Rafael Assis ready for FC Istres challenge
The French outfit have taken Rafael and his brother on loan for the 2013/14 season as part of the deal, and Sambafoot has already spoken to Matheus about his early impressions.
Now it's the turn of Rafael, who faced Ronaldinho and Copa Libertadores winners Atlético Mineiro in the Campeonato Mineiro earlier this year and is now looking forward to a new challenge in a new country
Below is Sambafoot’s interview with the young Brazilian…
Could you introduce yourself to the French public?
My name is Rafael but people know me by the name of Rafael Assis.
How did you come to France?
I played for Tupi in the Mineiro State Championship earlier this year. It was really good, I could deal with Cruzeiro, Atletico Mineiro and Ronaldinho. This allowed me to be me. Istres and Sambafoot liked my work and gave me this opportunity.
What do you think about France?
This is the first time I have left Brazil. It is a very peaceful country and currently it is very hot.
And what do you think of French football?
This is different from Brazil, it is very physical and fast football. In Brazil, we have more time to run with the ball. I will adapt gradually.
Do you personally know any Brazilians who play in France?
Not yet, I saw Brandão but I could not talk to him. He only played half the FC Istres-Saint-Etienne friendly.
What is the most difficult for a Brazilian in France?
Communication, the coach does not understand us.
What do you think of this Istres team?
This is a very happy team, who work hard. The team will be ready for the start of the league.
What are your qualities?
I'm a striker, dribbler, fast and skilled enough but I have not yet had the opportunity to show this in games. But I will do everything to be able to show it quickly.
